New Zealand Cricket has congratulated Northern Districts and BLACKCAPS wicketkeeper Peter McGlashan on achieving a world record for the most catches in a first class match.
McGlashan took 12 catches (six in each innings) for his Northern Knights team in a Plunket Shield match against the Central Stags at Whangarei.
This is the most catches ever taken in a first class match anywhere in the world. The previous record of 11 catches was shared by a number of wicketkeepers.
The record for most dismissals in a match is 13, by Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Wayne James in 1994/95, who took 11 catches and two stumpings.
NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan said McGlashan’s record was an outstanding effort.
"This is a huge achievement for Peter to break the world record, and I am sure he is very satisfied," he said.
"The Northern Knights bowlers also need to be congratulated on their efforts – a keepers can only catch those edges that are presented to them."
McGlashan’s catches all came off Northern Knights’ medium-pace bowlers, who also returned impressive match figures – Graeme Aldridge took 11 wickets in the match, and Trent Boult six. Northern Knights won the match by nine wickets.
