Women's National Development Tournament 2007: Day Four

Auckland maintained leadership of the Women's National Development Tournament after four rounds of play at Lincoln University.

Auckland stay five points ahead of Canterbury, who defeated Otago, while Northern Districts earned a bonus point in defeating Central Districts.

After overnight rain caused a delayed start, Auckland batted through 34 overs on Lincoln Number 3, to earn 202 for five.

Openers Kelly Sutherland and Jussara Bierman put on 54 for the first wicket. Katie Perkins carried on with her fine form with 53 runs off 56 balls, and Sam Barriball added 39.

Wellington struggled losing wickets regularly and was 144/9 at the end of the 34 overs. Sandee Hui, Katie Perkins, Rosie Cox and Jessie Latimer all took two wickets each and Melinda Hodgson top scored for Wellington with 31.  Jess Bennett scored an entertaining 29 off 14 balls.

At Lincoln Green, ND won the toss and fielded and had immediate success with Hannah Beatson (three for 22) taking three quick wickets and Morna Neilson two, CD batting to 120/9.  Olivia Gregory top scored with 29.

In reply, ND reached the target in 26.5 overs with opener Natalie Dodd scoring 30 and number three batsman Kirbie Samkin top scoring with 49 off 61 balls.

At the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, openers Frankie Mackay and Janet Brehaut started positively in their match against Otago and put on 118 for the first wicket.

Janet Brehaut scored 66 off 89 balls and Frankie Mackay scored 52 off 56 balls.  Megan Tuapawa and Erin Bermingham put on an unbroken 78 runs for the fifth wicket, with Bermingham smashing 62 not out off 26 balls including eight fours and three sixes.

At the end of 38 overs Canterbury was 258/4.  Otago, chasing a mammoth 259 to win, was dismissed for 123 after 33.4 overs.

Sarah Mollison top scored with 29 and leg spinner Bermingham completed a fine match taking 3/19.

Auckland batted first in their match against Wellington on Lincoln No. 3.
