Two teams start the season with new coaches. Central Hinds will be coached by Doug Bracewell.  Doug is an older brother of previous BLACKCAPS players John and Brendon.  He is based in Masterton and has been involved with coaching of the Wairarapa girls teams for many years.

Nathan King comes on board as coach of the Otago Sparks.  Nathan is a staff coach at Otago Cricket having filled cricket coordinator roles.  The last two winters he has spent time coaching at the Hong Kong Cricket Club developing his coaching experiences.

Central Hinds will be looking to capitalise on a strong squad – which includes no fewer than five current or former White Ferns, including captain Aimee Watkins and 2008 Cricketer of the Year Sara McGlashan.

Otago Sparks have a new captain in Katey Martin and will rely heavily on the experience of Sarah Tsukigawa, Clare Taylor and Suzie Bates.

Canterbury Magicians have a new look team with a number of retirements from last season and a new captain in White Fern Amy Satterthwaite.

Wellington Blaze look a strong side again with White Ferns Sophie Devine, Lucy Doolan and Sian Ruck making a formidable bowling line up.

Northern Spirit will rely on the all-round skills of White Ferns Nicola Browne and Kate Pulford.

Auckland have a similar looking squad to last year and a new captain in White Fern Victoria Lind to lead them.

Last season Canterbury Magicians and Wellington Blaze fought each other in both competition finals, with Canterbury winning the 50-over title and Wellington turning the tables to take the Twenty20 honours.

The first round of the domestic women’s competition begins on the weekend of 4 - 6 December. The schedule includes ten rounds of one-day competition, played in double headers.  Five rounds will be played in the Twenty20 competition, with matches played on the days before or after the one-day games.
