Women’s Development Tournament 2007: Day Two

Auckland and Canterbury maintained their leadership of the Women's National Development Tournament at Lincoln University after their second bonus-point wins of the competition.

Frankie Mackay's century for Canterbury against Northern Districts, Wellington's Sarah Bradbury's 84 against CD and Rosie Cox's 6/14 for Auckland against Otago were the highlights of day two.

Auckland had a crushing victory against Otago in their match at Lincoln No. 3.

Left-armer Rosie Cox took 6/14 off 7 overs and off spinner Nadia du Plessis took 3/11 off 3.2 overs, with Auckland taking just 61 deliveries to reach their target, with opener Wendy Horneman 46 not out off 30 balls.

Wellington won the toss on the Bert Sutcliffe Oval and batted first against Central Districts. Opener Sarah Bradbury top scored with 84 off 142 balls and along with solid contributions from Penny Lewis with 22, Melinda Hodgson with 38 and Sarah Sims 22 helped them reach 237/7.

Sonya Thompson took three for 40 to set up an exciting run chase, which saw her side fall just four runs short.

Good contributions from Courtney Woodward, Esther Lanser and a final flurry from Olivia Gregory with 35 not out off 36 balls proved not enough, while Jessie Bennett’s four wickets were crucial.

Canterbury won the toss and elected to field in the match against Northern Districts on Lincoln Green, with ND making 190 for nine. Tamara Gould scored 39 off 61 balls, and Anna Peterson made 37 off 67 balls.

The Canterbury response was never ruffled, with captain Mackay scoring 114 off 92 balls, and put on 118 for the first wicket with Janet Brehaut (24).

Lizzie Rae’s unbeaten 20 saw them home in 28.4 overs.

Otago 68 (Rosie Cox 6/14, Nadia du Plessis 3/11) lost to Auckland 71/0 (Wendy Horneman 46*, Katie Perkins 21*) by 10 wickets
