Windies build base

The West Indies took a big step to playing their way back into the Test series with Pakistan on day two of the second Test at Multan.

Having brought about a late innings collapse, the West Indies dismissed Pakistan for 357 and then reached 151 without loss by stumps, with Chris Gayle unbeaten on 87 and Daren Ganga on 59.

Earlier in the day it was some fine controlled bowling by Jerome Taylor, who captured 5-91 from 26 overs, that saw Pakistan tumble from its day one score of 4-263 to its final total.

Taylor had great support from Corey Collymore (2-67) who bowled an unbroken 15 overs and who was desperately unlucky not to have greater reward as several chances were grassed off his bowling.

However, Taylor more than compensated with a concentrated off-stump attack and a clever variation in his length.

In his second over of the day he induced Inzamam-ul-Haq to play at a good length ball and the edge was taken behind.

Shoaib Malik, who was dropped from Collymore's fourth ball of the day, lashed four boundaries but paid the price for his daring when Dwayne Bravo pulled off a fine one-handed catch in front of second slip.

Kamran Akmal continued the attacking vein but his 12-ball innings ended for 17 while in contrast Abdul Razzaq was positively pedestrian in scoring 16 not out off 89 balls as the innings disintegrated.

The new ball provided some early moments of concern for the West Indies openers, with Gayle edging three early boundaries, however, they settled into their task.

There was a hint of spin in the pitch when Danish Kaneria entered the attack but the turn proved slow and the pair was able to contain the threat.
