National Selection Manager, Kim Littlejohn, said: “We have selected is a strong all-round squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup.

“There is depth in our batting, a bowling attack with a variety of pace and spin, excellent fielders with plenty of energy and excellent leadership.

“There's a lot of experience in the team including a large number of World Cup veterans and we think that familiarity will be useful when it comes to pressure situations that the team will face during the marquee tournament.

“Natalie Dodd gets recalled after a lengthy break,  having excelled on the domestic scene so far this season and shown her ability to perform for the Emerging Players Squad in recent years.

“We welcome back experienced all-rounder Sophie Devine to the squad, who missed the Rose Bowl series last month due to injury, while Kate Broadmore also returns to the side.

“There were some difficult decisions to make but we are very excited by the list chosen and are confident this squad has the right balance to do exceptionally well.

Coach Katrina Keenan said: “We believe the squad selected is capable of winning the World Cup in sub-continental conditions.

“It includes a number of in-form and experienced players such as Suzie Bates, Nicola Browne, Sara McGlashan, Amy Satterthwaite, Lucy Doolan and Rachel Priest.  They’ll be well supported by a depth of young talent which includes the likes of Natalie Dodd, Kate Broadmore, Frances Mackay and Katie Perkins.

“Lea Tahuhu, Rachel Candy and Sian Ruck are exciting fast bowlers who have performed strongly on the international stage and we expect them to have a big impact on the tournament.”

The White Ferns are in Group B alongside Australia, Pakistan and South Africa. They play a warm-up match against Sri Lanka on 28 January 2013 and England on 30 January 2013 before their opening match against South Africa on 1 February.
