White Ferns opener against West Indies tomorrow

There are four potential debutaunts for the White Ferns in their opening One Day International against the West Indies Women at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln tomorrow.

Felicity Leydon-Davis, Hayley Jensen, Samantha Curtis and Holly Huddleston are in the 14 player White Ferns squad, which will play three ODIs and five Twenty20s against the West Indies.

It will also be Coach Warren Lees first series in charge and the former BLACKCAPS player and coach is looking forward to the challenge.

“I think it’s an exciting opportunity for these players and I can’t wait for it all to get underway tomorrow,” says Lees.

“We’ve got the talent, we’ve got the skills, but I think with the new players in the squad the most important thing is that we come together as a team. If we can do that then ultimately we will be successful.

“The West Indies will be tough, but we go in with the confidence that if we execute our plans then we have every chance of winning.”

Tomorrow’s match will be the ninth time the two teams have squared off in ODIs, with the White Ferns holding a 4-3 advantage (one match no-result).

Following the ODIS, the team will head to Invercargill for three Twenty20s, before ending the series in Mount Maunganui with the final two Twenty20s.

The match starts at 10.30 am and is free viewing to the public.
