White Ferns dig in for long summer

The White Ferns have kicked off a long series v England Women today at Mount Maunganui.

The tour has three 50-over matches at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval, then two Twenty20 matches at Whangarei's Cobham Oval before the show moves to Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln for a Twenty20 match and two further 50-over matches. See the full schedule.

The White Ferns go in with a squad that's long on experience, alongside a fair share of youth, with 18-year old Hannah Rowe set to make her international debut.

Captain Suzie Bates scored 668 runs in the 50-over regular season - but even her hot form could not match international team mate Amy Satterthwaite, who plundered a record 770.

"I was rapt to see the runs that Amy was scoring because I said many years ago that she was one of the players to watch and she is fulfilling her potential. I'm looking forward to seeing her carry on that form against England,” said Suzie Bates.

England bring a formidable side to these shores, lead by the formidable Charlotte Edwards.

The first three matches count toward the ICC's Women's Championship, which counts towards qualification for the 2017 Cricket World Cup, so there's all to play for.

Every game on tour will be live scored on blackcaps.co.nz, with Twitter updates at @White_Ferns and we'll have full match reports, photos and videos here on the site.
