Wellington will host the HRV Cup Preliminary Final at the Hawkins Basin Reserve this Friday after the HELL Wellington Firebirds defeated the SKYCITY Northern Knights in a dramatic last-over finish at the Hawkins Basin Reserve this afternoon.
Whilst the win guaranteed the Firebirds a place in the Preliminary Final, the Northern Knights still have a chance of joining them to decide who will meet the Otago Volts in the Final.
With the Canterbury Wizards falling to the Auckland Aces earlier in the day, the Wizards were ruled out of contention but the Aces can yet displace the Knights if they win their last-round match against the Devon Hotel Central Stags in two days' time.
The Knights, however, have completed their 10 rounds and therefore can only hope that doesn't happen. Should the Aces win, they will be on equal points with the Knights and the Preliminary Finalist will be decided by which team has the superior net run-rate in the competition.
