Former Australian batting maestro Mark Waugh has made a stinging attack on national chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns, saying he has been in the job too long and is now making some "funny selections".
Waugh was unhappy about the constant selection changes, particularly the recent axing of Brad Hodge for the Test series in South Africa and Brett Lee's omission from the Test series in New Zealand last year.
"I think the board need to have a very hard look at Trevor Hohns, that's where the issue is," Waugh told the Herald Sun
"He's been there for a decade, which is a very long time to be in charge of picking our cricket teams.
"It stems back to New Zealand last year when Brett Lee didn't play a Test.
"The Brad Hodge situation was also very unfair to Brad."
Waugh himself was dropped from the Australian one-day side when he was still Australia's leading run scorer, with 8500 runs and an average of 39.35.
The 40-year-old said selectors were lucky that they had such a vast pool of talent to call upon or the current side would be losing a lot more matches.
"It wouldn't be hard to pick a good team, would it?" Waugh said. "But I think they have got a bit lost.
"When someone has been there for a long time sometimes you need ... new thoughts."
