Warne praises Cullen

Dan Cullen must have done something right if the world's greatest spin bowler is calling for him to be considered for Ashes selection.

Shane Warne believes there might be some merit in playing Cullen in a three-pronged spin attack at times during this summer's Ashes series.

"Myself and Stuart MacGill are the No.1 and No.2 when we play two spinners," Warne told the Herald Sun.

"But there might be times through the series, whether it be in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, where we might have a raging turner, where we might want to play three spinners."

Cullen broke into the Australian Test squad this year playing his one and only Test in April against Bangladesh.

Warne has been so impressed with the recent form of Cullen that he thinks the young South Australian is on the verge of another Test breakthrough.

"Dan has to be ready when the chance comes and force his way in through performance and take five-fors," Warne said.

"He might knock out me or Stuey. He is really good, I really like Dan Cullen."

Cullen was expected to play a handful of matches alongside Brad Hogg in the Champions Trophy but a combination of fierce competition and a lack of spin-friendly wickets have prevented him from making an impact.

It is Cullen's second trip to India after travelling with the 2003 Academy squad but many believe the spinner's best chance to impress will be on home soil this summer.
