Vote for Cameron Merchant for Cleo Bachelor of the Year

Wellington Firebird batsman Cameron Merchant has been nominated for Cleo magazine’s Bachelor of the Year – proving he’s hot property on and off the cricket field.

Merchant is one of 12 worthy bachelors who have been nominated for Cleo Bachelor of the Year. Voting is now open and the public can vote at www.cleo.co.nz. Voting closes on March 6 with the winner will be announced in April.

26 year old Merchant was photographed late last year on Piha Beach by the team at Cleo magazine wearing nothing but white pants and holding a cricket ball. “They put in the only serious photo of me! All the other photos I’m laughing and smiling and having fun, but I’m in the calendar so I’ll take it!"” Merchant laughed. “It was a fun day. It’s something that you don’t get to experience everyday. So doing something out of your comfort zone is always good.”

He’s up against 11 other bachelors including an ironman, a Shortland Street actor and mechanic. “I’m really flattered to be in the top 12 for Cleo Bachelor of the Year. I’ve got some tough competition but hopefully cricket fans - guys and girls, young and young-at-heart alike - will vote for me,” he said.

He’s also in the Cleo Bachelor of the Year calendar as Mr January 2012. “It’s quite surreal thinking that I’ll be pinned up on a wall in offices, bedrooms and bathrooms across the country. Hopefully I can encourage more Kiwis to become cricket fans.

“I just wanted to say a big thanks to New Zealand Cricket, Cricket Wellington and Cleo Magazine who have been so supportive of me and a big thank you in advance to all the fans that get in there and vote,” Merchant concluded.
