VIDEO INTERVIEW: Injury update from Dave Currie

 Dave Currie
BLACKCAPS manager Dave Currie gives us an injury update for Jesse Ryder, Daniel Vettori and Ross Taylor.

On Jesse Ryder’s illness…

“Certainly he hasn’t been well and it was pretty obvious at the ground yesterday that he was very uncomfortable. He was admitted to hospital early yesterday evening [UK time] and been in overnight for observation. They ran a series of tests and he’s now getting treatment so hopefully within the next 24 hours we’ll get some finality on what his future will be. With that in mind we’ve brought in Aaron Redmond as cover. He’s been playing here in the UK he will join the squad tonight and train with us for the next 24 hours until the decision on Jesse is made. Once that decision has been made if Jesse is OK then great - if he can come back and if not Aaron will be here with the team.”

On Dan’s injury…

“Well Dan was unfortunate really, it was a simple fielding drill when the shoulder got damaged. He’s had some treatment on it yesterday, that will be assessed again in the morning and a decision will be made as to whether he can play tomorrow or not, or if he’ll be rested through until the next game.”

On Ross’s injury…

“Everyone saw that Ross pulled up with a significant tweak on his hamstring last night it could be three, four or five days until he’s right to play again. He’s having extensive treatment on that and we’ll have to wait and see. The hope is clearly it will be the shorter end of those three, four or five days but we’re just going to have to wait and see its clearly important that he’s right at the latter part of the tournament.”

In the team’s morale…

“It hasn’t been the easiest time, but it’s a really positive environment and there’s a lot of support with the team and a lot of depth in the squad. You saw last night that Neil and Brendon Diamanti came on and performed really well so there’s strength in the team and the squad, there’s good heart, so while people are disappointed when they can’t play the strength of the squad makes it that they are optimistic and looking forward to the game tomorrow.”
