BLACKCAP all-rounder Daniel Vettori has made the extended short-list for ICC Cricketer of the Year and ODI Player of the Year.
In the voting period the talented BLACKCAPS captain hit 633 Test runs at an average of 48.69, 398 ODI runs at 30.61 and 117 Twenty20 runs at 19.50. His spin bowling returned 27 Test wickets at 37.66, 27 ODI wickets at 30.61 and 10 Twenty20 wickets at 22.80.
Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis from South Africa, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag from India, Shane Watson and Doug Bollinger from Australia and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardena feature prominently in the long-lists for the awards, which will take place in Bengaluru, India on 6 October.
The other BLACKCAP to feature is Brendon McCullum who is a contender for the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year.
McCullum struck an exhilarating unbeaten 116 off 56 deliveries against Australia at AMI Stadium last year and this performance is also one of the nominees for the New Zealand Cricket Fans Choice Award.
The White Ferns are well represented with Suzie Bates, Nicola Browne, Sophie Devine and Sara McGlashan making the list of 13 nominees for the Women’s Cricketer of the Year.
'The awards are an opportunity for the ICC and FICA to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable performances of the world's top players,' said ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat.
'It is also a chance for followers of our great sport to reflect on some of the great cricketing feats they have witnessed over the past year. This will be the seventh time the awards have been handed out and picking the winners will not be an easy task for the voting academy,' he added.
The awards are based on the players’ performances between August 24th 2009 and August 10th 2010, a timeframe that has included the 2009 Champions Trophy in South Africa and the 2010 World Twenty20 in the Caribbean.
