Tuffey set for Aces debut

Former BLACKCAPS seamer Daryl Tuffey has been selected in the State Auckland Aces’ squad to face Bangladesh at Eden Park Outer Oval on Friday.

Tuffey, the ex-State Northern Knights right-armer, joins recent first-class debutant Greg Morgan in the Aces’ attack.

Roneel Hira and David Houpapa, who featured in Auckland’s limited-overs double-winning side last season, are named as is Andy McKay, although the in-form Andre Adams does not feature.

”With a State Shield campaign starting at the end of the month it’s a good opportunity for the guys to get their heads around the one day game again, and obviously it’s a buzz for them to be taking on an international side,” coach Mark O’Donnell said.

“Having said that we’re not doing anything out of the ordinary in preparation, we just need to do the key things well.”

The 50-over contest starts at 12noon on Friday (21 December).

State Auckland Aces: Richard Jones (captain), Paul Hitchcock, Rob Nicol, Martin Guptill, Colin de Grandhomme, David Houpapa, Reece Young, Greg Morgan, Daryl Tuffey, Roneel Hira, Andy McKay, Keeley Todd.
