Tait signs with Wizards - awaiting fitness and release

The Canterbury Wizards face an anxious wait to see if Shaun Tait is able to play for them in the HRV Cup this season.

The positive news for the Wizards is that they have successfully secured Tait's services to spearhead their bowling attack in the domestic T20 competition.

The frustrating side of the positive news is that Tait now awaits clearances from his surgeon and Cricket Australia before the Wizards know exactly what his availability will be.

Canterbury Cricket CEO, Lee Germon, said that "being able to secure Tait for the Wizards was hugely exciting for our players and the cricket followers in Canterbury. It shows that we are an attractive proposition for one of the world’s most exciting cricketers. We hope it all comes together so that crowds in Canterbury and throughout the country get an opportunity to see the world’s fastest bowler up close and personal. We now wait with baited breath for confirmation of Shaun's availability."

In the meantime Germon has continued to work on a back up plan for another overseas player to join international cricketer Ryan ten Doeschate who has already signed to play for the Wizards for the entire HRV Cup campaign.

Shaun Tait Profile

Shaun Tait's body found the Test workload too tough but he has remained a brutal bowler in the game's short forms. In January 2008 he took an indefinite break from the game due to physical and emotional exhaustion and since returning later that year has focused only on Twenty20s and one-dayers. The method has proved highly successful as he floats around the world delivering short, blistering spells. As a late addition to Australia's one-day squad in 2010, he unleashed a ball against England at Lord's that registered at 161.1kph, the second-fastest of all-time.
