State Championship – Tea Break Update

State Wellington Firebirds vs State Canterbury Wizards
Basin Reserve, Wellington, 17 – 20 November 2008

Play in this re-match of last season’s final was delayed by bad weather.  Wellington won the toss and elected to bat, and with play finally under way mid-afternoon, the Firebirds had reached 56/0 after18 overs – with the 50 coming up in just 55 minutes.  Matthew Bell was unbeaten on 38.

State Central Stags vs State Auckland Aces
Nelson Park, Napier, 17 – 20 November 2008,

At Napier, Auckland won the toss and put Central in to bat. The Stags made steady progress through to 104/2 at lunch, but lost four wickets in the second session, going to tea at 180/6.  Brad Patton top scored with 57.

State Otago Volts vs State Northern Knights
University Oval, Dunedin, 17 – 20 November 2008

Michael Parlane’s innings of 41 gave Northern a good start in their first innings, after being put in to bat by Otago. By mid-afternoon honours were about even, with Northern losing four wickets while progressing through to 128.  Young cricketer of the year Kane Williamson was showing good form, unbeaten on 42 at tea.
