Sir Jack Newman Award winner announced

David Ireland of Wellington has received the 2013 Sir Jack Newman Award from the New Zealand Cricket Foundation.

Mr Ireland will receive his award and $2000 to direct in to the area of grassroots cricket.

He was selected to receive the award for his outstanding service to club cricket in Wellington, where he is heavily involved at junior, college and senior levels.

Mr Ireland is the Onslow Club’s Junior Convener, where he oversees the entire running of the junior club committee and its players.  He also holds a number of other positions at the club and this year became a part of the Senior Club Management Committee.

NZC General Manager of Cricket Development, Mark Lane, said it was important to recognise Mr Ireland’s exceptional work at club level and the service he has provided.

“David Ireland is an integral part of Onslow Cricket Club and his dedication has been of immense value to the game,” said Lane.

“From leading strategic issues about the direction of the club to coaching a junior side himself, his contribution has been wide-ranging. Without the hours of hard work that people like David put in, club cricket would struggle to function.

“Cricket is lucky to have people of David’s quality in the game and we deeply appreciate his involvement.”
