Shreck seals Firebirds win

Charlie Shreck claimed a five-wicket bag as State Wellington Firebirds claimed a nine-wicket victory over the State Champion Northern Knights at Seddon Park.

The Englishman conceded 60 runs for his haul and four on the final day as the Knights fell from 120 for two overnight to 217 all out.

Mark Orchard added four runs to his overnight 64 before falling to Mark Houghton.

The visitors lost one wicket, Matthew Bell (bowled Tim Southee for 29), en route to their win.

Earlier in the match, a maiden first-class century by Firebirds' Dewayne Bowden proved pivotal.

Bowden struck an unbeaten 106 as Wellington made 360 in their first innings, eclipsing State Northern Knights’ 224.

Shreck’s contribution then left his batsmen with 82 to win, and they made 84 for one inside 21 overs.
