Series defeat for White Ferns

The White Ferns have been denied the Rose Bowl after Australia completed another narrow victory in the ODI series in Brisbane.

Leah Poulton’s century helped the Southern Stars take an unassailable 3-0 win in the five match series in another closely-fought contest.

Poulton made 101 to help her side to 236 for six off 50 overs, with acting captain Lisa Sthaleker in support with 46.

Maria Fahey (pictured) hit 69 as the New Zealanders replied, and despite an unbeaten 31 from 27 balls by Nicola Browne, the White Ferns could not match their target.

Australia captain Karen Rolton will not take part in the final two matches of the series.

She picked up a knee injury in the field during Sunday’s second ODI.

She said: "The scans revealed a slight tear that will need to be fixed when I get home.

"The good news is that no further damage can be done if I do play. I'll see how things go over the next few days. I don't want to close the door on not playing in this series just yet.

"I wouldn't risk further injury as the domestic season is around the corner and there are international games ahead in February that I need to consider."
