Satterthwaite and Tahuhu back for White Ferns

Veteran White Ferns Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu have been reselected for the White Ferns upcoming tour of the West Indies in September.

The squad of 14 will play four One Day Internationals and three Twenty20s against their Caribbean opponents, with their first match being on 13 September in St Kitts.

Satterthwaite and Tahuhu come in for Katey Martin and Frances Mackay and are the only two changes from the squad which travelled to the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh earlier this year.

Having previously represented the White Ferns in 110 matches, top-order batsman Satterthwaite brings with her a wealth of experience. Tahuhu too is familiar with the international scene, having featured for the side 27 times.

White Ferns Coach Hamish Barton was full of praise for the attitude both players had shown.

“We gave Amy and Lea some areas to work on and we’ve been really impressed with their commitment to do what has been asked of them,” said Barton.

“Both of them have shown in the past that they’re world class and they’ve still got a lot to offer. They’ve worked incredibly hard to get back in the side and I’m confident they’ll take this opportunity.”

Barton said the squad was well-balanced.

“We’ve got a number of exciting young players in the side and this tour will be a huge step in their development. However it’s equally important to have players with experience and knowledge of the conditions and we have that too, so we’ve got the right mix.”

The side will meet for a training camp in Tauranga on 22 August before departing for the West Indies on 6 September.
