BLACKCAPS batsman Jesse Ryder is undergoing further assessment in hospital for ongoing muscle pain.
New Zealand team manager Dave Currie said Ryder was admitted to hospital after the match against South Africa as a precautionary measure for observation and assessment.
“Jesse is continuing to suffer serious discomfort and has been admitted to hospital overnight for observation and further tests which we hope will provide a clearer picture of his condition.”
Currie said no decision would be made on Ryder’s continued participation in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament until further medical advice has been obtained.
“We hope the picture will become clearer in the next 24 hours.”
Meanwhile Currie advised that Daniel Vettori is continuing to receive treatment for a shoulder injury, but was hopeful that he would return to match fitness shortly.
A knee injury to James Franklin was not serious and he was likely to be fully fit for the Super8 stage of the tournament.
Ross Taylor will be monitored over the next 36 hours after suffering a hamstring twinge during the South Africa game.
The BLACKCAPS travel to Nottingham later today [Wednesday 10 June] for their first match in the Super8 round, against Ireland at Trent Bridge on Thursday.
