Rounds two and three of NZCT Girl’s Finals completed

Palmerston North Girls’ High School and Havelock North High School have got off to the perfect start in the New Zealand Community Trust Secondary School Girls’ Finals.

With round one having been abandoned due to inclement weather yesterday, the second and third round on day two kicked off the tournament. The previously mentioned teams were the only two sides to win both of their matches, elevating them to the top of the points table.

Palmerston North were particularly dominant, posting victories by 79 and 59 runs. They were led by Samantha Rowe with the bat, who scored half centuries in both innings with scores of 64 and 52. Alongside Central Hinds rep Hannah Rowe they are now favourites heading into the final two days.

A range of individual performances contributed to Havelock North High School’s success, including a well struck 37 from Holly MacDonald in the first match and figures of 3-16 from bowler Natalya Taylor in the next.

The other sides to win today were St Hilda’s Collegiate and St Kentigern College, who sit two points adrift of the two leaders. Four rounds remain in the competition, with two to be played tomorrow.
