Rolls announces retirement

State Auckland Hearts and White Ferns wicketkeeper/batsman Rebecca Rolls has retired from all cricket.

Rolls, 31, has played 104 ODIs since debuting against Pakistan in Christchurch.

She missed just one series in a decade-long international career, which took in a critical last-over catch in the White Ferns’ 2000 World Cup Final victory at Lincoln.

Her 2201 ODI runs came at a strike rate of 85.90, and she was the first wicketkeeper to reach 100 ODI dismissals in women’s ODIs and still has the highest number (133) of any keeper.

She played 90 State League matches for Auckland, scoring 2591 runs, taking 86 catches and making 48 stumpings.

A keen footballer, Rolls also represented New Zealand in that sport for four years.

“I’ve enjoyed my time immensely and I’m very excited for the future of women’s cricket and for the White Ferns, even though I won’t be part of it,” she said.

“However, I feel the time is right to move on with the next stage of my life.”

White Ferns coach Steve Jenkin thanked Rolls for her contribution.

“We are definitely going to miss her. Since I have been here, she has been an important part of our team and integral to our planning for the next World Cup, and the way we play cricket.

“However, she has represented her country proudly at two sports in a distinguished career and it is ultimately her decision. We wish her the best for the future,” he said.
