Redmond to replace Ryder in BLACKCAPS squad

New Zealand Cricket has confirmed that Aaron Redmond will replace Jesse Ryder in the BLACKCAPS squad for the remainder of the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in England.

Approval for the replacement was issued this morning by the ICC.

New Zealand team manager Dave Currie said Ryder remained in hospital today but was progressing well, and was likely to be released within the next 24 hours. He is expected to return to New Zealand after further recuperation.

“Unfortunately medical advice is that it would be very difficult for Jesse to regain full fitness in time for the remainder of the tournament.

“Because of the time constraints at this stage of the tournament we have made the call to bring in a replacement player, and we're fortunate that Aaron has been able to join the side for today’s game.

“It’s a real disappointment for Jesse. He’s one of the most explosive batsmen in the world and was well placed to make his mark on this tournament.”

Currie said Redmond was likely to play in today’s Super Eight match against Ireland.  The playing 11 would be named shortly before the game.
