Aaron Redmond outscored the returning Scott Styris to ensure State Otago Volts inflicted a first defeat of the season on State Auckland Aces at Eden Park.
In a rematch of last season’s final, Redmond made 106 as the Volts piled up 292 for eight having been sent in to bat.
Nathan McCullum made 56 from 39 balls at the close to boost his side’s already stiff total.
Styris, returning to the Aces after BLACKCAPS duty, looked to help Auckland recover after the loss of two quick wickets, including the first-ball dismissal of Paul Hitchcock.
Styris made 89, and Rob Nicol backed up his three wickets with 49, as the chase looked to be back on.
However, McCullum grabbed two wickets and Warren McSkimming three as the home side were removed with four overs to spare.
