New Zealand WHITE FERNS captain Suzie Bates has gone up in the world to be ranked the fifth best One-Day International batsman in the latest ICC ODI women's rankings, now just five points behind her Indian counterpart Mithali Raj.
Sophie Devine's impact in the middle order across the recently completed ODI leg of the tour of India has meanwhile seen the tour vice-captain vault nine places to 12th, after having scored 181 runs in the five ODI matches with a top score of 89.
The biggest Kiwi mover in the rankings released this week is 24-year-old Anna Peterson, who jumps 44 places to a career-high 75 in the batting list after having provided valuable firepower down the order.
In the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers, the WHITE FERNS' highest ranked player in both ODI and T20i bowling, spinner Morna Nielsen, moves up one spot to 13th, while pace bowler Lea Tahuhu powers up 14 places to 32.
The consistency across the series of Bates (up 17 spots to a career-high 33rd) and Devine (up 10 places to 35th) is also reflected.
Although India claimed overall spoils 3-2 in their five-match series, the WHITE FERNS moved up two places to joint fourth in the ICC Women’s Championship table following a 2-1 win in the three championship games that opened the series in Bengaluru.
The side had gone into the series second from bottom of the IWC table on four points, but have now leapfrogged Sri Lanka and England and risen to fifth, a fraction behind Pakistan. India has gained two points, but remains rooted to the bottom of the table on five points, marginally below Sri Lanka when net run rates are factored in.
In the final matches in round three of the IWC starting later this month, England will host early pace-setters Australia, needing a 3-nil series victory to move to the top of the table. Australia can extend its lead with a series win. The IWC table will determine which teams automatically qualify for the ICC 2017 Women's World Cup.
