Pietersen cleared of injury

England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been cleared of any serious injury to his knee after being hit on it twice during the current one day international series against Sri Lanka.

Pietersen was forced to limp throughout his side's recent loss to Sri Lanka in the third game after sustaining a nasty blow.

However, scans have since cleared the star stroke-maker of a possible fracture, as was originally suspected.

The positive scan result means Pietersen is now free to join up with the squad ahead of this week's fourth match in the series.

An already injury-ravished England is down 3-0 in the series and fighting now to avoid a whitewash at the hands of the unfavoured Sri Lankans.

The loss of Pietersen could have been devastating for England who is already without Michael Vaughan (knee), Andrew Flintoff (ankle), Ashley Giles (hip), Simon Jones (knee) and James Anderson (back).
