Papps just short of century

BLACKCAPS Test opener Michael Papps fell two runs short of a century as State Canterbury Wizards pursued State Wellington Firebirds’ first-innings total at the Basin Reserve.

The Wellington innings ended in the 115th over with the score on 366, adding 52 to their over night score, Grant Elliot finishing unbeaten on 67.

Papps put on 90 for the first wicket with Todd Astle (27), and 81 for the second with Shanan Stewart, before he was bowled by Jesse Ryder.

Andrew Ellis (15) and nightwatchman Leighton Burtt (one) were the not out batsman at stumps, with Canterbury on 204 for four.
