When Canterbury batmen Michael Papps raised his bat in the Plunket Shield match against the Auckland Aces he had not only celebrated a fine century but also a new Canterbury record.
The 30 year old opener has become Canterbury’s most prolific run scorer after surpassing former international player Paul McEwan’s total of 5940.
Canterbury Cricket CEO Lee Germon is thrilled by Papps’ milestone. “Canterbury Cricket is very proud of Michael and his outstanding achievement. He has been consistently one of our best performers and his longevity is testament to his dedication and commitment to Canterbury Cricket,” Germon said. “He replaces another outstanding Canterbury stalwart in Paul McEwan who I am sure will be delighted for Michael.”
