Pakistan takes series 2-0

Pakistan secured a 199-run victory at Karachi to beat the West Indies in the third Test and to take the series 2-0.

The West Indies went into the last day needing to reach 444 for victory or to survive the day. It achieved neither as its batsmen failed to build on starts.

Victory was secured about an hour from the end of the day.

The West Indies went to tea at 226-5, but without Ramnaresh Sarwan who suffered a hairline fracture of his foot when hit by an inswinging yorker that has ruled him out of the one-day series which follows.

Brian Lara was earlier dismissed by Umar Gul for 49 and Sarwan departed hurt when having scored 35.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul battled hard for the cause, attempting to get the side to the safety of a draw, especially as failing light necessitated the floodlights being lit 20 minutes before the tea break.

However, two overs after tea, leg-spinner Danish Kaneria made the significant break when trapping Chanderpaul leg before wicket for 69.

The situation was compounded when Daren Powell hit the next ball straight to silly point.

The end came quickly as Abdul Razzaq trapped both Jerome Taylor and Corey Collymore leg before wicket and the West Indies were dismissed for 244.

Kaneria took 3-69 while Gul had 2-89 and Nazir 2-49 while Razzaq secured the two tailenders at a cost of 23 runs.
