Otago makes solid progress

The State Otago Volts top order made solid progress on the first day of the State Championship season against State Canterbury Wizards at Christchurch’s QEII Park.

Otago captain (pictured) won the toss and elected to bat, and his side moved to 352 for four at stumps.

Cumming led the way with 63 as part of an opening stand of 119 with (66).

then added 75 as part of another 119 stand, with (45).

top-scored for Otago with 77, before Broom fell to the last ball of the day, delivered by Canterbury debutant Amandeep Singh.

Singh shared the wickets with Wizards youngsters (1/54) and (2/78).
