Otago claim pole position

Craig Cumming hit his second limited-overs century to lead State Otago Volts to the top of the State Shield table with a bonus-point victory over State Northern Knights at Dunedin.

Cumming’s maiden One-Day hundred came last month against the same opposition and he doubled up as Otago claimed a 61-run win at the University Oval.

The BLACKCAPS Test opener posted 112 as the home team made 279 for eight in 50 overs, the skipper only falling to a run out in the 45th.

Nathan McCullum finished the innings in fine style with an unbeaten 45 from just 24 deliveries, striking four boundaries and three sixes.

Matt Harvie was the bane of the visitors’ batting, claiming his first five-wicket innings for the Volts.

Seamer Nic Turner provided back-up with three for 32, as the Knights were removed for 218 in the final over of their allocation.

All-rounders Joseph Yovich (50) and Mark Orchard (44) were the top scorers for Northern.
