Tauranga Boys’ College v Christchurch Boys’ High School
On a cold and blustery March morning, Tauranga Boys High School Year 9/10 NZCT Team won the toss and decided to bat on a dry Manawaroa Park pitch. The Christchurch Boys’ High School opening bowlers stuck to tight line and lengths in the opening spell and were soon rewarded with two early wickets. Tauranga boys regrouped and at the 20 over mark had reached a respectable 68 for the loss of two wickets.
CBHS struck immediately after the drinks break, removing the inform Craig Baldry for 27 and from there on began a strong tussle between bat and ball that would last the rest of the match. Tauranga Boys tried to up the run rate, but as a consequence lost regular wickets. Mikaere Leef and Bradley Howard scored 29 and 28* respectively to keep some momentum in the Tauranga Boys innings.
Callum Cameron’s disciplined death bowling earned him three more wickets to add to his earlier victim, and finished with figures of 4/28 from his 8 overs. This spell helped Christchurch Boys restrict Tauranga Boys to 164/8 in their allotted 40 overs.
The Christchurch Boys innings started nervously and with some accurate bowling from the Tauranga Boys opening bowlers, the score was 36/4 after 12 overs. Isaac Anderson steadied the ship with good patience and some powerful, yet calculated blows. When he departed with the score on 83/6, the game truly was in the balance. Momentum quickly shifted in Tauranga Boys’ with two more quick wickets, and with the score at 105/8 it was just about in the bag. Enter Callum Cameron and Campbell Reid.
Cameron’s mature innings of 24 from 34 balls and Reid’s belligerent innings of 33 from just 28 balls made short work of the remaining 60 runs, and CBHS achieved the total with 3 overs to spare. Bradley Howard’s figures of 4/37 from his 8 overs was the standout bowling performance for TBHS.

Auckland Grammar School v Otago Boys’ High
Auckland Grammar batted first on a green looking wicket at Manawaroa Park. The opening pair got off to a solid start, before George Coombe was caught by Henry Niemi off the bowling of Tim Horton on 22.
Other useful contributions came from fellow opener Yatin Ramesh who struck 26 off 29 balls, Harry Miller 22 off 19 and Hamish Kidd 37 off 49. A 5th wicket partnership of 63 runs from Kidd and Sam Jenkins help Auckland Grammar put on a total of 236 for 9 off their 40 overs.
Jack Pryde and Tim Horton took two apiece for the Otago Boys’attack.
In reply, Otago Boys lost opener Marc Cormack early in the piece followed by Hunter Kindley who put on 30 in 53 balls. Samuel Jones crafted 31 off 53 delivers, but the remainder of the Otago Boys failed to make starts. The pick of the bowlers for Auckland Grammar was Hamish Kid who took 3 runs off his 6 overs.

Hutt International Boys’ School v Hastings Boys’ High School
Hastings Boys’ High School won the toss and decided to send in Hutt International Boy’s School on the opening day of the NZCT Junior Secondary School Boys’ Finals. However Hastings Boys’ High School may have had second thoughts about their decision as the opening stand from Adam Webster and Rachin Ravindra was a very impressive 144 runs off 21.2 overs.
The opening pair were rampant, cruising to 100 runs off 12 overs and peaking at 8.38 runs per over before slowing down and consolidating a match winning partnership before A Webster succumbed to a caught and bowled from a relieved Ben Stowe. Josh Rogerson picked up where A Webster left off with a quick-fire 53 runs from 43 balls and along with further solid performances with the bat Hutt International Boys’ School posted a daunting 277.
The bowling figures may make hard reading for the Hastings Boys’ High School but B Stowe, Liam Smith and Ben Remihana all managed to pick up a wicket each.
Hastings Boys’ High School looked to start their mammoth run chase steadily with a composed first few overs however in the fourth over J Rogerson thumped the ball onto B Remihana’s pads and picked up the opening wicket of the innings through LBW. Two more wickets fell within the next seven overs including Sean Broderick who scored a productive 32 runs from 29 balls.
Sadly for Hastings Boys’ High School three more wickets were lost in quick succession through the bowling partnership of R Ravindra and Jesse Tashkoff. A strong stand by Rohan Fendall and Alex Ryder wasn’t quite enough and Caleb Hewson managed to pick up two wickets in the 34th over to end the game and open Hutt International Boys’ School’s account with a commanding victory.
