NZC pay tribute to Tony Grieg

New Zealand Cricket President Stephen Boock paid tribute to former England captain and popular commentator, Tony Grieg, who died age 66 following a short illness.

“Tony Grieg made a life-long contribution to the game of cricket we are deeply saddened by the news of his passing,” said Boock.

“He was a gifted all-rounder and innovative leader who should take a lot of credit for paving the way for better professional standards enjoyed by players today.

“His entertaining approach to commentary made him one of the most popular personalities in cricket with a voice that is recognisable the world over.

“Tony Grieg did so much for the promotion of the game as a player and during his career in the media and will be fondly remembered around the world.

“We send our sympathies and condolences to his family and his many friends in cricket.”
