No play at the Basin

There was no play on the third day of the State Championship match between State Northern Knights and State Wellington Firebirds at the Basin Reserve.

The Knights remain on eight for one in five overs, in pursuit of the Firebirds' 314 but there was no action in the capital due to heavy rain.

Wellington hold second place by virtue of their superior net runs-per-wicket compared to Canterbury, with the Firebirds RpW of 9.024 compares favourably to the Wizards’ 2.841.

Wins in the competition is the first factor to divide teams on level points. However, both teams have had three wins in the competition to date.

The table-topping Knights held a four-point lead in the table going into the final match of the regular season, with victory assuring them home field advantage in the final.

Wellington need to better State Canterbury Wizards’ final round result to claim a final place, while a victory should guarantee them a second successive home final, and third in four years.
