An upcoming Blind Cricket series between New Zealand and Australia has recently been confirmed to take place in Sydney, Australia.
The series will take place at The Kings School in North Parramatta from 13 to 17 January, 2010. It will feature three ODI matches and will also include 20/20 matches one of which will be against an Australian State Side.
The International series will commence at the conclusion of the Australian Blind Cricket Carnival which takes place at the same venue.
Australia will go into this long overdue series as clear favorites after a recent strong performance against England during 2009 in the Blind Ashes. Although England won that latest series it was closely fought and showed that Australia is amongst the best blind cricketing nations in the world.
For New Zealand their focus will be to learn as much as they can from this series as only a few players have had International experience. It will be the first stepping stone along the path towards the Blind Cricket World Cup in 2012. As with most Trans Tasman sporting matches this series is expected to be played with passion and commitment from both sides and anything could happen on the day.
Neil Fellows, NZ manager and team selector said “A rigorous training program has been put in place for the current extended group of New Zealand squad members and the build up to this series will be like no other. We are expecting very hot conditions and a very competitive Australian side so we need to be prepared to the best of our ability.”
The naming of the New Zealand Blind Cricket squad will take place on Monday 26th October 2009 where 11 players and 3 reserves will be announced.
