New Northern Spirit Coach Announced

Northern Districts Cricket announced today of a new coaching appointment for the women's team, the Northern Spirit.

Mark Coles takes over the reigns from Owen Steverson, who coached the team for the past three seasons.

Coles is presently the Cricket Development Officer at Waikato Valley Cricket Association. He has had involvement in the women's cricket programmes at Cricket Wellington, Perth, Vanuatu and under the direction of Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket has worked with their elite female players.

CEO Peter Roach said of the new appointment "ND is delighted to welcome someone of Mark’s quality to the role.  Mark brings experience, skills and an enormous passion to the position.  We are sure the players will enjoy his style of coaching and he will be able to bring the best out of them. We are also pleased that the best person for the role was found from within our strong network of coaches in our Districts."

Coles is looking forward to the challenge ahead of coaching the elite women's team and said “It’s a great privilege to be involved with a group that has so many talented cricketers with a great mix of youth and experience, the trick now is to get this group believing they can beat any opposition they play against”. Coles will have support of former ND spin bowler and former Northern Spirit Coach Cliff Dickeson. "Cliff has over 10 years of experience with the women's team and is a highly respected member of staff. I am looking forward to having him on board as the sounding board and support system."

The coaching appointment is for two years.
