New High Performance Coach for Cricket Wellington

Cricket Wellington’s High Performance programme has been bolstered with the announcement that Shane Deitz will join the organisation on Monday 20 October as a High Performance Coach.

Deitz is an Australian qualified Level III coach and has most recently been playing and coaching in Holland. He has completed ten seasons of first-class cricket with South Australia as a top-order batsman and wicket-keeper, ending his first-class career with the South Australian Redbacks following the 2007/08 season.

The High Performance Coach role is fully funded by New Zealand Cricket. With this comes a number of direct accountabilities back to New Zealand Cricket (NZC) including implementing and delivering a High Performance programme to advance Wellington’s NZC-identified age-group elite cricketers.

“Shane will add immense value to Cricket Wellington’s High Performance programme. To have an experienced Australian first-class player and a Level III coach helping to drive forward our elite cricketers is an exciting development”, said Cricket Wellington CEO Gavin Larsen.

State Wellington Firebirds Coach Anthony Stuart, Gavin Larsen, and NZC Acting Elite Player Coach John Wright worked together to secure Deitz’s appointment. Deitz will directly report to Anthony Stuart, and will work closely with senior Cricket Wellington High Performance managers Christie van Dyk (Elite Player Coach) and Mark Borthwick (Coachforce Director).

Deitz will play club cricket for Naenae Cricket Clulb, and his Australian first-class experience will undoubtedly add quality to Wellington’s premier club competition.
