With less than nine months until the tournament kicks off in the Caribbean, England and Sri Lanka are still cementing their final squads.
There will be inexperienced players in both teams in the five one day internationals and Moody told the BBC: "Everyone will be pressing their games with the World Cup coming.
"England have got some talented players in their line-up but it's quite clear they haven't formulated their squad."
England has included six uncapped players in its squad while Sri Lanka has opted for a mix of youth and experience.
"Players will be keen to make their mark ahead of the World Cup," said Moody.
The Australian-born coach also said his side could learn a lot from its recent Test series against England.
"We need to refocus the players after that good finish to the Test series and we need to take a bit of a reality check and sum up where we are at and what we need to do over the next month," Moody said.
"We know we have got five important one-day games and in a way this defeat is not a bad thing because it has given us an early kick up the backside.
"Hopefully this will get us switched on and although it would be nice to think you don't need that wake-up call, it's happened.
"That's the way I'll be approaching things and I've already discussed it with the team from here on, it's 100% concentration and focus."
