Wellington Blaze all-rounder Sophie Devine has won the 2010/11 overall women’s domestic Mitre 10 MVP award.
She was the clear frontrunner with 263.61 points, well ahead of fellow team mate Lucy Doolan, who finished in second place with 240.78 points.
Devine was the leading wicket taker for the Action Cricket Cup, claiming 14 scalps, with a best of 4 for 11, and was the third highest run score in the competition, with 255 runs and a top score of 92.
In the Action Twenty20 competition she took 10 wickets and was the third highest runs scorer in the competition with 348 runs and a top score of 99 not out - the highest individual score in the shortest format for the season.
Devine was thrilled to learn she had secured the top spot on the Mitre 10 MVP rankings. “This season has been going quite well not just for me but for the whole Blaze team,” she said. “Everyone has been standing up and making a contribution. It’s nice to be recognised for my performances this season.
“I’m pretty chuffed to have won the Mitre 10 MVP. It’s a great system to see who is performing and it’s something for players to strive for.”
She is also pleased to see Blaze players take out the top two spots on the Mitre 10 MVP rankings. “It just goes to show how Wellington is going. It’s great Lucy is at the top with me. She’s been playing some fantastic cricket. But it’s nice to have a bit of competition,” Devine said.
Devine was presented with $1500 worth of Mitre 10 vouchers for winning the Mitre 10 MVP at the conclusion of Saturday’s Action Cricket Women’s Twenty20 Final against the Canterbury Magicians.
“I would like to say a big thank you to Mitre 10 for their support of the MVP and also a big thanks to my Blaze team mates and all the support staff. They have been really supportive this season and I couldn’t have done it without them,” she concluded.
