McSkimming claims five-wicket bag

Otago Volts seamer Warren McSkimming took five wickets to dismiss championship-chasing Canterbury Wizards for 247 at Carisbrook.

Skimming collected his haul for 56 runs off 21 overs as the visitors were dismissed midway through the 63rd over.

Brad Scott supported with two wickets, and James McMillan one, with the Wizards’ South African-born duo Kruger van Wyk and Johann Myburgh making half-centuries.

Myburgh (60) and captain Van Wyk (59) put on 82 for the sixth wicket as Canterbury moved from 54 for five.

Tail-enders Brandon Hiini and Michael Davidson then further extended Canterbury’s total with 33 and 45 respectively.

The Otago reply was 26 for one at stumps after 13 overs, in-form Leighton Burtt removing Aaron Redmond for two.

An outright win would see Canterbury progress to the State Championship final after this final round of matches.

The Wizards currently stand six points ahead of Auckland Aces in the table. There was no play in Auckland’s game at Wellington Firebirds due to rain.

The Aces need to win at the Basin Reserve to progress.
