Mason links up with BLACKCAPS

State Central Stags bowler Michael Mason has travelled to South Africa to link up with the BLACKCAPS.

Mason appeared in three of the five One-Day Internationals during last month’s National Bank series success over the West Indies.

The 31-year-old, whose one Test cap to date came against the Proteas at Wellington’s Basin Reserve in 2004, will act as cover for the squad’s existing pace attack.

Shane Bond missed the first Test defeat in Centurion through knee injury, and James Franklin has a slight knee strain.

Mason has overcome his own ankle problem, which kept him out of contention for selection to the original tour party.

The second Test of three begins in Cape Town on April 27.
