Magicians into both women's domestic finals

The Canterbury Magicians will feature in both the women’s domestic Twenty20 final and One Day final this weekend. The defending Twenty20 champions will defend their title against the Wellington Blaze on Saturday, before taking on the Auckland Hearts in the 50 over format the following day.

Having finished as the top-qualifier in the round-robin, the Canterbury Magicians will host the Twenty20 final at Main Power Oval in Rangiora, with play scheduled to start at 11:00am.

For the second season in a row the home side were undefeated in the Twenty20 regular season and will go in as favourites to defend their title. The Blaze, on the other hand, benefitted from a superior net run-rate to reach the decider, but will be buoyed by the possible return of captain Sophie Devine to the side.

The action then moves to Melville Park in Auckland on Sunday, where the Hearts will defend their title against last year’s finalists the Magicians, with play getting underway at 10:30am.

The Hearts have been the in-form team in the One-Day competition, winning eight of their ten games and holding a clear advantage over the rest of their competitors. The Magicians finished eight points behind the leaders, but will be boosted by the knowledge that they were one of only two teams to take a game from the Hearts during the round-robin.

Canterbury and Auckland were both part of last year’s finals, while it will be Wellington’s first appearance since the 2010/11 season.

Both matches will be scored live on the Major Association websites and
