A century to Brian Lara on the last day of the second Test against India has helped West Indies salvage a draw.
Chasing India's first innings total of 588-8 declared, the West Indies ended the match having scored 215 and 294-7.
With play extended by 30 minutes on the last day, the West Indies faced 98 overs to save the match.
There was an early setback for the home team when Daren Ganga shouldered arms to an Anil Kumble wrong 'un to be bowled for 26 having added only two to his overnight score.
One run later, Ramnaresh Sarwan was back in the pavilion having touched a ball from Munaf Patel that was moving to the off for one with the West Indies 52-3.
Lara, who had moved to No.3 in the order on day three, started unassuredly but kept his wicket intact and occasionally unleashed some typical strokeplay.
It was midway through the second session before Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul were separated, when Chanderpaul, on 54, was undone by a Kumble full toss.
Chanderpaul attempted to pull the ball over the mid-wicket boundary. However, he miscued and the ball was caught at wide mid-on by Irfan Pathan.
Dwayne Bravo continued the fight with Lara and it was into the final session before Lara was finally dismissed for 120 when trapped leg before wicket by Virender Sehwag. It was his 32nd Test century.
He and Bravo had taken the score through to 252 and while Bravo went for 47, it was Denesh Ramdin who held the lower-order together in the face of spirited Indian attempts to snatch a win.
Ramdin was 19 not out at the end while Kumble finished with 3-98 from 42 overs and Patel took 2-50.
