Lara launches assault

A commanding unbeaten knock of 196 from Brian Lara has helped the West Indies race away to 509-5 after the third day of the second Test against Pakistan in Multan.

Earlier in the day, Lara once more etched his name into cricketing folklore when he became just the fifth batsman in Test history to score a century before lunch.

Decimating the home side's bowling attack throughout the morning session, Lara waltzed to his ton from just 77 balls.

However, Lara was not the only West Indian batsman to capitalise on some errant bowling from the hosts and a solid 89 from Dwayne Bravo helped keep the run-rate in overdrive.

After sharing a 200-run partnership with Lara, Bravo, just 11-runs short of what would have been his third Test century, agonisingly fell late in the day to spinner Danish Kaneria.

The wicket seemed somewhat fitting for the battered bowler, who was carted for 60 runs from 29 balls by Lara during the morning's play.

With Bravo sent reeling back to the pavillion, Lara, though, continued where he had left off and, together with Danesh Ramdin, batted out the remaining overs to keep the West Indies in an authoritative position at stumps.
