Daniel Flynn and BJ Watling record centuries to set up a comfortable win for the State Northern Knights over State Wellington Firebirds at Whangarei’s Cobham Oval.
The Knights, batting first, overcame the early dismissal of Nick Horsley (seven) with a record 240 stand including career-best limited-overs score for Flynn (143) and a second State Shield century for Watling (103).
BLACKCAP Mark Gillespie cut through the hosts’ order late in the innings to end with four wickets and keep them under 300.
But the Firebirds did not get close to the Knights’ 299 for seven, Luke Woodcock (61) and Grant Elliott leading a reply that fell 51 runs short of victory, with a wicket in hand, after 50 overs.
