Katie Perkins smashes World Record

It’s not every day world records are broken, But this week one talented Auckland cricketer showed what she could do to become the holder of a very special world record.

Auckland Hearts player Katie Perkins appeared on NZ Smashes Guinness World Records on Sunday night along side funny man and HRV spokesperson Marc Ellis.

Her goal was to catch as many tennis balls as possible within a minute, which were being fired at her at the speed of 100kms – it’s quite a daunting feat for anyone, however Katie stepped up to the mark.

“Everyone wasn’t expecting me to break it and I did it for a bit of a laugh,” Katie said. “But as soon as I did it I was in the zone.”

Not only did she break the record, (which was previously held by Australian Anthony Kelly, who caught 23 balls in a minute), Katie completely annihilated the record by catching 33 balls within a minute. “It’s all about doing it well,” she said. “It makes it hard for anyone else to beat it.”

Although she broke a Guinness World Record this week, the icing on the cake came on Wednesday when she was named in the New Zealand emerging players’ team. “This is the coolest thing so far,” Katie said. “It really has been an exciting week.”
