Kane Williamson’s backing the BLACKCAPS to bounce back from their disappointing 202-run opening Test defeat to Australia at the 'Gabba.
The visitors were outplayed for much of the five days in Brisbane with Williamson providing the main New Zealand resistance, scoring 199 runs with the bat including a memorable 140-run knock in the first innings.
"It was nice to spend some time in the middle. It was a very good wicket and I just tried to keep it as simple as possible. But yeah, it was frustrating, the result," Williamson said.
"We know we need to be better and there were a few positives. I think as a unit we just need to gel and click a little bit more in these conditions and hopefully we can put up a much stronger performance in the next one."
That next one is the second Test at the famed WACA in Perth on Friday.
Williamson said it would be another challenge he would relish.
"When you come over here — you're always expecting a bit more pace and bounce in the wickets and that probably assists their bowlers.
"You need to make the subtle adjustments with the conditions and the attack you are coming up against wherever you play."
One nil down in a three-Test series means bouncing back fast will be the key, and Williamson's backing the side to lift.
"We did it last time we were here, but we do know we need to be better and it doesn’t just happen.
"It’s a very good Australian side and they certainly showed that out here so a lot of credit goes to them. Even though we weren't at our best, they still played very well so it's important we make those improvements.
"Although we certainly weren't our best — it is just small adjustments that need to be made."
The team relocated to Perth on Tuesday evening.
