Jayasuriya steers side home

Sri Lankan batting maestro Sanath Jayasuriya has hit his 20th one-day century to steer his side to a 46-run victory over England in the second match of the series.

Jayasuriya (122) took advantage of a flimsy England bowling attack, Sajid Mahmood the worst of the hosts conceding 80 runs from seven overs, to see Sri Lanka pile on 319-8 at the Oval.

The total was Sri Lanka's highest ever against England and although Kevin Pietersen (73) and Paul Collingwood (56) toiled hard, the home side eventually stumbled to be all out for 273 from 46.4 overs.

Jayasuriya also proved deadly with the ball and helped see out the English resistance with three wickets as Sri Lanka took a two-nil series lead.

The loss was England's 12th defeat in 16 one-day internationals.

However, of some respite for the hosts was a timely return to form for paceman Steve Harmison who nabbed impressive figures of 3-31.
